Saudi Arabia: Bans Riyadh Residents From Buying Cats And Dogs

You’ve probably heard of the guy with a dog ploy of a single man goes for a walk around town with a dog or even better, a puppy. Men using pets to pick up women have officials in Saudi Arabia’s capital so worried that they have prohibited them from buying cats and dogs or even walking them in public, the  Associated Press Reports.

The prohibition went into effect Wednesday in the capital, Riyadh, and authorities in the city say they will strictly enforce it unlike previous bans in the cities of Mecca and Jidda, which have been ignored and failed to stop pet sales. Violators found outside with their pets will have their beloved poodles and other furry companions confiscated by agents of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, the official name of the religious police, tasked with enforcing Saudi Arabia’s strict Islamic code. If a man or woman is caught with a pet, the pet will be immediately confiscated and the man will be forced to sign a document pledging not to repeat the act, Al-Othman told the Al-Hayat newspaper. If he or she does, he or she will be referred to authorities. The ban does not address women or men.

This article affects me because I would not want to be caught with my dog just because I’m walking with it in public. If I was walking my dog or doing exersizes with  him, why would I be caught just because I’m walking it or running with my dog. For me that would be messed up because they’re just going to trap dogs and cats for nothing I mean they”re not doing nothing to them they’re just friendly pets.

Iraq:A trip to the Baghdad zoo

On the article I read was about a zoo called “The Baghdad Zoo”. it was fun reading that article plus interesting too because to go to that zoo you only need to pay 25 cents each. The zoo was not very crowded, because most Iraqis were out of town for a religious celebration. But as with most places in Baghdad, the zoo was full of police searching people for weapons or bombs. They even searched children and women’s handbags!!! The people at the zoo wandered around looking at the bears, birds, antelopes, foxes, cheetahs and other creatures. Because it was late in the afternoon, most of the animals were snoozing. When a person went into the Baghdad zoo about 15 years ago, he saw a lion that was very very skinny. Fifteen years later, he wanted to come with his family and friends to see if the lion had changed. Many families looked at animals that were sad and others had someone to company them in their cages. The zoo worker told us that U.S. forces were going to return to the zoo to deliver half a ton of meat for the lions, but even though they were fed they were still so hungry. I would really enjoy a lot going to that zoo because it really seems very interesting to go.

This article affects me and the community because if I were one of those lions famished for food, I would want workers to have many meat for me because I wouldn’t want to die and I would also want to have a great health to be strong and grow!!!

Saudi Arabia: A rise in executions

Amnesty International reports that Saudi Arabia has executed 71 people through the end of August this year. Nearly half of them were foreigners, including migrant workers who don’t understand Saudi laws, have no political connections and are too poor to pay “blood money” that would spare them. We have witnessed a sharp rise in executions of prisoners sentenced in largely secret and unfair trials, states a new Amnesty report urging a moratorium on the death penalty. The death penalty is carried out disproportionately and discriminately on national or ethnic grounds.

This article affects me and my community because nobody should be placed in death penalty even though they did a crime. If somebody injured me on purpose because they wanted to kill me…it dosen’t mean I’m going to kill that person I should just forgive them just like God did when people crucified him because they didn’t know what they were doing.

Iraq:An endangered christian community

For the second time since February, an Iraqi Christian leader has fallen victim to religiously motivated violence. Yousif Adil, a priest in Baghdad, was shot to death Saturday in the capital’s Karrada district, which has become an enclave of sorts for the city’s few remaining Christians. On February 29th the archbishop, Paulos Faraj Rahho was found dead after gunmen grabbed him. There was a funeral for both of them and everyone from there family came.

This article affects me and my community because priests and bishops have died for no reason. This affects me and the community too because it’s not fair that priests and bishops have been killed for no reason and if this keeps on happening, there may not be as many priests and bishops in the world anymore.
